Fire Escape

 Sunshine, shadows, fire escape...and fence

This building must have been a factory at one time but now it houses apartments. I don't know what it looks like inside but the outside could use some TLC.

A longer view

I am linking to Good Fences HERE.

Let's hope they never have to use that fire escape.

Definitely looks like you might have to be a little athletic to use it.

Interesting shot. I'm fascinated by how run down the back sides of some buildings are compared to the nice exteriors at the front.

Great photos for "good fences"; super!

Original fence post!:) I like the shadow of the little balcony in your first shot.

I find the shape and form of fire escapes very interesting.

It casts a nice shadow! Cool!

The style of the fire escape reminds me of one here.

Love the shadows. The outside does have some character tho.

Two wrongs don't make a right: painting bricks and then letting it chip away. Not pretty.

At least it's far enough off the ground that the casual passerby won't be climbing it to get into the flat any time soon! Love that zoomed in photo with its shadows!

Most original option for Good Fences. I love the shadows the balcony throws as well.

Kind of scary, rust appearance one wonders if it is safe. Yet if one ever has t o use it. Then it is not a choice but a must.

Hey, that is pretty neat. I imagine the inside is really fixed up nice.

Interesting shots! We dont have fire escape at our apartments. :) Maybe we need one!

And yet you have captured some beautiful images of it!!! I especially love the shadows from the floor of the balcony!!!

Yeah, the building could use a little TLC. Nice photos though!

I really like the shadows you captured on the wall of this building. I'm willing to bet that the apartments inside are not in need of TLC.

Great pics for the day, EG, as always! An "old broad" at my age these days, I'm reluctant to criticize "old buildings, etc.! All of us could use a TLC!! Hope you're ready for a lovely weekend!!

Great capture, a divine view too! The building makes for an interesting subject as well.

Wonderful capture! I like the brick wall even though it appears to be falling apart.

Fire escapes like that are a rarity on newer buildings. They seem so NYC to me. :)

Gorgeous photos! Love the shadows. It's a wonderful old building, and you don't see fire escapes as much anymore.

Shabby and maybe chic----I like the shadows from the fire escape.
I like your Question Mark Butterfly too. How do you get them to stand still for a picture or two? MB

This seems to be the way of it for older brick buildings..not much done with keeping the back side looking nice..I would want all four sides taken care of myself. The shadows are neat- nice capture.

We HAVE TO HOPE THE INSIDE IS NICER AND THAT EVERYONE IS FAMILIAR WITH WHERE THE FIRE ESCAPE IS.

Sometimes fences aren't in wide open spaces. Love the shadow effect.

Would not want to have to use this one! :-)
I love the shadow in the first one.

Thinking beyond the obvious, perhaps it is the equivalent to a back door.

Old buildings require so much upkeep! Said as we are in the middle of getting ours ready for the winter ahead. ;-)

It definitely has character.

I would love to know what peeled the paint down by that AC unit in the long view. Had not thought about the fire escape till others commented.

What an awesome shadow of the fire escape! It is hard to even tell if it is real or not.

I was in an apartment block in Windsor, and the fire escape was like your photo, I often wonder if they are too rusty and not maintained.

Lois said...

I would have to be really scared to use that fire escape. The building does need some work, but it makes a great picture!

Pamela Gordon said...

I always wondered if I could actually escape on one of those fire escapes. They make it look so easy on TV. lol

That's a beautiful photo.

The lines, shadows, and old brick masonry all work together.

I remember when I was a kid, I was really fascinated with fire escapes. The wrought iron railings are kind of pretty!

Jack said...

You are right. This is not just cosmetic damage. It is going to lead to structural damage if they don't get it fixed.

Ida said...

Great shot, It's got a lot of great visual texture and color and light/shadows.

Grandma C said...

The shadows and textures are so beautiful. I keep asking myself why are older buildings so much better than the new ones?

Anonymous said...

Wonderful old building. The first image has some poignant undertones for this particular day.

Anonymous said...

Definitely in need of sprucing up a little!
