Great Blue/ Watery Wednesday

Great blue heron in a pond near me

One of my goals this year was to get some good shots of great blue herons, which in years past has not been easy as they have so many places to hide in the cat-and-nine tails so prevalent in my area. But for some unknown reason I have been in the right place at the right time this year. I LOVE it!

This heron was NOT in the perfect spot to get a super photo - a bit too shady for my taste. But the heron made me happy when it decided to jump out of the water and fly to a better fishing spot twenty or thirty feet away. Unfortunately it flew to an even shadier location but at least I got the shot of the heron in air.

I am linking to Watery Wednesday where you can find many more watery photos.

Wow, what a great photograph. I love the bird's colors.

Most photos of herons are ones of them just standing in a frozen position. After all, that's what they do best. This one was different because of the action. It's nice to be happy about you shot. Keep on clicking.

It's exciting when you see a bird of this kind, but even more exciting to get a snapshot of it.

These are awesome birds. There is one that hangs out at my brother's pond, but I haven't been able to sneak up on him yet. I'm still trying.

Love it! Great action shot! I usually see these standing still, looking at the camera, and wondering what the photographer is doing.

I think that is the bluest great blue heron I have ever seen. Usually they are more gray than blue. Nice.

Great capture, I like the water following it feet up.

You did a great job. I personally find bird photography tough especially since their instints to fly is quicker than my shutter.

Great action photo. You really do have to be in the right spot at the right time....and ready. Still it's all too easy to catch just a blur! Love the details of the wings in your photo.

Wonderful shot, there is even water dripping from its feet!

..and what a shot!! Yes, right time right place! But also a talented photographer! :) It's difficult to make a sharp picture of a flying bird or a bird that takes off.. but you made it! :)

Mr. Heron is strutting his stuff!

WATER DITTY

A mist, a drop, a river, the sea—
All of this water, a gift for me!

Some snow, a berg, or maybe some ice—
Anything frozen, that would be nice!

The heron may not have been in a perfect spot, but this picture is about as perfect as a picture could be. Simply fantastic.

I don't think I can add anything to the comments that have already been made so I'll reiterate that this is a gorgeous bird and your photo excels!

The 48 commenters writing before me have said it all. What an awesome shot. We have a a single blue landing in our creek some this summer, but I have not been as fortunate as you. Maybe one day I will get a shot of him. genie
